History
Mission Hill was once a part of Roxbury but is now a neighborhood in Boston which has been annexed. Often referenced as Parker Hill, Mission Hill is generally now agreed to be it's own small neighborhood in Boston by most government and commercial entities and institutions. Prior to the American Revolution, Mission Hill was the home to many large country estates in which Boston families and wealthy landowners lived. The majority of the Mission Hill area was once an orchard farm owned by the Parker family during the 18th century but over time after the death of Peter Parker, areas of the orchard were sectioned off and sold for development. Mission Hill maps for development began before the Fenway and Longwood Medical areas.
