History
Hyde Park is a neighborhood in Boston that was originally developed by one of the Twenty Associates Alpheus Perley Blake. Formed by parts of Dochester, Milton and Dedham, Hyde Park was incorporated in 1868 and was separated from Norfolk County in 1912 after being annexed by the city of Boston. ,br> For more than 130 years, Hyde Park has been an active industrial community. The Westinghouse Sturtevant Corporation called Hyde Park home for almost 130 years. Over the years, Hyde Park has faced many challenges such as the busing crisis, displacement of residents and more. Description Hyde Park is noted for warehouses and factory buildings that line the area and represent the intense industrial ties within the community. The town library, a branch of the Boston Public Library system has been standing in Hyde Park since 1899. Hyde Park also features an opera house which searves as the Hyde Park Riverside Theatre Works and was built in 1897. Hyde Park has adequate transportation options that serve as direct connects to downtown Boston. The MBTA Commuter Rail's Fairmount shuttle runs to Readville and also services the Fairmount and Readville stations. Additional transportation within Hyde Park includes MBTA bus routes which run through Cleary and Logan Squares which provide connections to the Orange and Red Lines. Residents Hyde Park is home to more than 9,000 residents. Median age for Hyde Park residents is 36 years old with a slightly larger female population than males. The area is mixed white collar and blue collar workers with the majority of workers falling into the white collar workers range. Average household income for Hyde Park residents is $60,860.
