History



The Financial District is a neighborhood in Boston that is located in the Downtown area near the Government Center. The Financial District area includes the Post Office Square and the Exchange Place as well as the International Place complex and the Custom House Tower landmark.

This Boston neighborhood is home to many mutual fund companies and is the world headquarters for the State Street Bank. Financial District is also the home to Price Waterhouse Coopers accounting firm, the local headquarters for Bank of American and Sovereign Bank as well as the local office home of Merrill Lynch. With all these financial based companies it's really no wonder that this area of Boston has gained the name Financial District.

Description



Financial District is home to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston as well as the First National Bank Building along Federal Street. The Financial District area contains highrise buildings and skyscrapers in a densely packed area that is much more dense than the nearby Back Bay area which happens to contain two of Boston's highest skyscrapers.

Financial District abounds the Atlantic Avenue, State Street and Devonshire Street but the actually zoning of the area is like many other neighborhoods in Boston and is not official. Various parts of the Financial District are located in different zip codes based on location. The T subway station is located in the Financial District as are various other forms of transportation.

Residents



The Financial District is home to less than 100 residents but is still a hustling and bustling area of Boston. Residents of the area range in age with the majority of residents of the Financial District area being men in the age range of 25 to 40 years old. There are women in the Financial District too and their average age tends to be in about the same range as the men. The Financial District is primarily a white resident area with very few residents being Hispanic, Asian or mixed races.

Rental Housing



Rentals are scarce in the Financial District and therefore the cost is relatively high when compared to other Boston rentals in the area. Financial District rentals typically are above the price range of $2,500 but do range slightly lower as well based on the amenities and actual size of the rental. Most of the rentals in the Financial District are condos or apartments that average 5 rooms or less.

Financial District is an area for any financial guru to find something interesting. Bankers and financiers alike will marvel at the many skyscrapers that abound in Boston's Financial District. In addition to the many highrises that are already present in the Financial District, there are proposals to build additionally highrises in the area which could change the and enlarge the Boston skyline in the near future.
